As 2013 begins to blossom, I feel the need to reflect lovingly on the 2012 wedding season.  My passion for wedding design was heightened and strengthened by some incredibly lovely clients, and two new assistants who have the talent for organization, social media and knowing what I needed when I needed it, kept the office running smooth as silk.
To my dear couples; Ashley and Kevin, Katie and Matt, Miriam and Moe, Wanda and Stephen, Natalie and Rob, Katelyn and Brock, and Jacqueline and Matthew…I send you a warm congratulations! It was an honor for me and my staff to design and coordinate your amazing weddings. Check out some of their wedding design elements further down in this post.

This year I had the pleasure to work with my dear friend Corinne, of Panacea Event Floral Design, to create two swoon-worthy projects: A Great Gatsby inspired shoot and a romantic French stylized shoot that spoke to our love for all things French.

Great Gastby
Our Great Gatsby inspiration shoot had major swoon factor (many thanks to brilliant photographer, Mike Larson) and was given lots of love from Style Me Pretty. Thank you Abby! HammerSky Vineyards and Inn was carefully chosen for this glamorous shoot because of the gorgeous grounds and estate. Starting with the palette, designing the entire look and feel of this stylized shoot was a true labor of love.  I designed a custom ceremony runner from burlap and vintage lace tablecloths, the groom’s styling and the tablescape for the head table including the placesettings, linen and the vintage trophy cups. Then Corinne brought it all to life with her absolutely gorgeous floral design. The picnic scene was a favorite shot for me. It was inspired by the Original Movie with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. It allowed me to showcase wedding design elements in one location: The Cake, signature cocktails, linens and appetizers.

French Garden Shoot

The French Garden inspiration shoot was a labor of love, literally. I have traveled to France four times now and the love affair grows stronger with each visit. Je t’aime Jake Odening for capturing this shoot with such style and romance. Thank you: Style Unveiled and Grey Likes Weddings and, much to our delight, a French blog!: French Wedding Style, for featuring this shoot. Merci beaucoup Monique! Much love to you Heather and Lady Grey!

Two of our more cherished experiences in Paris inspired this shoot: Corinne and I studied French floral design at La Belle Ecole and later that same trip, after seeing all the magnificent sites Paris can offer, we bought cheese, bread and wine and sat on the lawn of Luxemburg Gardens and quietly marveled at our surroundings.

Design Trends from 2012

Loved playing with this rustic element this year. Burlap adds a texture you can’t really find with any other medium. It is hard and soft at the same time. I sewed this ruffed table-crown for the French shoot. I also made these fun pennants (or bunting for you Brits!)  ring pillows and designed the escort cards (floating on a raft of hydrangea) with Necia Odening for Jacqueline and Matthew’s seaside nuptials.

Wood Guest Tables and Vintage Furniture

I loved using natural wood tables this year for many reasons, the look of a dining room table evokes warmth and a feeling of family, you can easily sit 10 guests comfortably and linen table runners add color but not weight. Vintage rentals add charm beaucoup, a feeling of authenticity, character, texture and help tell the couple’s love story.

Eclectic Vases

Gone are the days of one enormous vase standing between your mom and her friends at their table. I am loving the use of several vases on each table, it offers great impact and lush centerpieces without blocking the view. Using an eclectic assortment of vessels also adds dimension, texture, lushness, and in this photo, allowed me to bring many elements of the sea to the design without being too beach-y.

This particular color palette was the most asked for combination in 2012 and is truly lovely. Can’t wait to see what happens this season, though bold is coming back (Pantone chose Emerald as the color of the year) I think the soft romantic look will hold strong. Check back for my predictions for 2013!

Looking forward to the new trends, new brides, new loves, new experiences, and new memories for twenty-thirteen!

My Best,
